Environmental Policy
Training For Travel prides itself on reducing certain aspects of the business, where possible, for the good of the environment. Every piece of card, plastic & paper that is deemed waste, is sent to a local recycling company, therefore reducing the amount waste paper and fuel used to pick up this waste.
We also urge our field based staff to recycle everything they can, whilst they in turn, urge the learners to do the same. We have a strict Green policy when printing. We only print black and white where possible and print all resources back to back, to reduce the amount of paper used by half.
Every email that is sent has the Think Before You Print logo at the bottom, to urge people viewing the email, not to print it, therefore reducing the amount of paper used.
Training For Travel promote the use of public transport throughout the company, in a bid to reduce emissions from our vehicles. Over longer distances, our staff will use trains where possible to get to a specific location. We also urge the use of conference calls instead of TFT HQ meetings with our staff, which would require a lot of people traveling to a meeting point. We also promote this same process with our customers where possible. Car pooling for the office is also suggested and regularly happens throughout the week, saving the number of cars on the road and in the car park.
The Training For Travel Head Office also has indoor office planting installed to improve the quality of our indoor environment, to clean the air & to reduce humidity levels. There is no soil or peat involved for the growth or survival of the plants, which in turn protects the UK's peatlands and leaves our natural carbon storage intact, which helps to preserve the ozone layer. The plants are grown from a clay based, aerated root structure, eliminating any compost-borne diseases or pests, allowing the plants to grow better, and clean more toxins from the air. Our plants are never replaced, therefore reducing regular visits from the suplier, therefore reducing harmful emissions into our atmosphere.
The Training For Travel Head Office is shut down every evening, leaving nothing on but an environmentally cautious fridge, our alarm system and our server. All computers, printers and photocopiers are turned off and not left on standby, and out can machine is fixed to a timer so it turns off when the office closes and turns on when people begin to arrive.
Training For Travel work very hard to reduce the amount of waste produced, and will continue to develop new and innovative ideas and ways in which to do so for the future.
In 2008, due to our recycling policy, Training For Travel were involved in saving 63,452 trees from destruction, which is a huge achievement. Within this number, Training For Travel actually saved 52.4 trees. In 2009, Training For Travel saved 64.7 trees. We hope the figure keeps improving for 2010.
Every month, Training For Travel actively recycle on average 15 kilos of paper and cardboard, 3 kilos of plastic and 4 kilos of cans from the office.
